FINCHLEY HOTELIER JAILED FOR RAPE OF POLISH GIRL
A teenage girl from Poland, who was sexually assaulted by Northampton hotel owner Naveed Soroya, spoke this week about her shattered sense of trust and her impossibility of envisioning a normal relationship with her partner.Soroya, an affluent individual from Valley Avenue in North Finchley, received a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty of the attack.
The 19-year-old delivered a statement to Blackfriars Crown Court on Friday, recounting how her experience last year at Soroya’s hands had severely damaged her self-esteem and left her feeling hopeless about recovery.
The girl, originally from Eastern Europe, had come to London in 2003 and sought employment at Soroya’s Olympia Hotel in Kensington by responding to a notice at a Polish community center.
Soroya hired her but called her to his flat in South Kensington for an interview, where he was found with alcohol, condoms, and a shower prepared.
While at his residence, he attempted to intoxicate her and made her vacuum the apartment while he watched.
He then asked her to return the following day to obtain her new work details, eventually taking her to a bedroom where he groped her bottom and breasts—though he was later cleared of that particular charge.
The next day, he met her again at the flat to pay an advance and took her to a bedroom where he raped her.
Afterward, she took a shower and escaped, calling a friend who accompanied her to the police station.
She voiced her fear, saying, “I can’t imagine ever feeling safe near a man or being intimate with my boyfriend.” Soroya was convicted of rape and sentenced for his crime.
