MAN GETS LIFE FOR GRANDMOTHER'S MURDER
Nathaniel Flynn, a man with a history of drug addiction, received a life sentence after killing his 84-year-old grandmother, Louisa Denby, in her home on Prospect Mount, Shipley.During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Flynn prepared a cup of tea for his grandmother and expressed his love for her before violently stabbing her 50 times in her bed.
The police described the assault as both "brutal and frenzied," and Flynn has not offered any explanation for his actions.
The court heard that the likely motive was that she irritated him.
Flynn, who is 27 years old, pleaded guilty to the murder and to attempting to murder a nine-year-old boy at a nearby skate park on the same day.
Investigations uncovered that Flynn had ordered an SAS survival guide, two knives, a tarpaulin, and rope via the internet in advance.
Authorities believe one of the knives may have been used in the attack, although it has not been found.
It was also noted that Flynn was dressed in pyjamas when he entered his grandmother’s bedroom.
He told a psychiatrist that he believed his grandmother was "deteriorating" and that he wanted to end her suffering, though other family members did not report any issues.
The judge, Mr.
Justice Keith, sentenced Flynn to serve at least 24 years in prison.
