MAN THREATENING TO SET EX'S HOME ON FIRE GETS COURT ORDER AND FACES SENTENCING
A woman installed extra smoke alarms and a lockable letter box after her 'violent' ex, Kyle Brown, threatened to set her home on fire. She was compelled to seek a court order to ban him from contacting her.
Despite the court order, Brown ignored the restrictions and told her: “If I wanted to kill you a non-molestation order wouldn't stop me.” Kyle Brown, 25, admitted to three breaches of this order when appearing at Huddersfield court.
The woman, whose relationship with Brown lasted around five years before ending in 2017, described him as controlling, verbally abusive, and violent, including a serious assault where he pinned her against a fridge by her neck.
After the threats and breaches of the court order, she took preventative measures.
On May 8, Brown told her he would set her house on fire with her inside, prompting her to install enhanced fire safety measures.
She later obtained a further non-molestation order banning him until May 22.
Brown called her after being served, denying the threat, and said: 'If I wanted to kill you a non-molestation order wouldn't stop me.' On June 10, he contacted her again, asking her to pass on his phone number related to a debt, which she told him not to do.
The final breach occurred on June 21, when she reminded him not to contact her.
His solicitor claimed his comments in a phone call were not threats but reiterations of the court order.
Brown was served with the order at his workplace, resulting in him losing his job as an HGV mechanic.
The court ordered a full probation report before sentencing, scheduled for January 29, with Brown restrained from contacting his ex or approaching within 100 metres of her residence until then.
