PREDATOR ATTEMPTED TO RAPE SCHOOLGIRL ON BUS IN BROAD DAYLIGHT
A man convicted of a sex offense was sentenced to a longer prison term following an incident in which he attempted to assault a schoolgirl aboard a bus in West Yorkshire.During proceedings at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, the judge determined that 24-year-old Lewis Melvin should be classified as a dangerous offender.
This decision stemmed from his attack that occurred in broad daylight on a bus traveling between Keighley and Bingley the previous year.
Judge Ahmed Nadim stated that Melvin’s actions were sexually motivated and executed in a brazen fashion, showing a disturbing lack of concern for the safety of the public or the distress caused to the victim.
Judge Nadim said Melvin, who has some mental health difficulties, been “disruptive” during the trial proceedings last year and had even started to masturbate himself.
He said Melvin had targeted a stranger on the bus and had shown no fear of being caught at the time.
“These offences were committed with striking audacity in broad daylight and unashamedly on a public bus demonstrating your willingness to commit sexual violence even when the risk of detection was high,” said the judge.
The court heard that Melvin, of Owlet Road, Shipley, had sat next to the teenager on a bus between Bradford and Keighley and had then persuaded her to sit with him on another bus to Bingley.
