NATHAN JOHN FROM PEMBROKESHIRE SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF TWO TEENAGE GIRLS IN PEMBERKSHIRE AND HAVERFORDWEST
A profoundly disturbed young man from Pembrokeshire has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of raping two 16-year-old girls in separate incidents that occurred over a span of 19 months and at different locations within the county.Nathan John, aged 19, was found guilty at Swansea Crown Court of three counts of rape and sexual assault.
The court's judgment resulted in a 20-year extended sentence, which includes 16 years of imprisonment in a young offenders' institution followed by four years on license.
This decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the court's recognition of the danger he poses to the community.
The court proceedings revealed that John launched a violent and predatory series of sexual assaults in the darkness of night, targeting two young girls who were simply trying to make their way home after a night out.
The first assault took place in October 2022 in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, and the second in May 2024 in Haverfordwest.
Both victims, each 16 years old, were walking alone when they encountered John, who exploited their vulnerability.
During the trial, it was detailed that John initially met the first girl at Circles nightclub in Milford Haven, where he kissed her.
However, she made it clear she was not interested in further intimacy.
Despite her clear refusal, John walked her home, only to then violently attack her, throwing her to the ground, removing his trousers, and engaging in what the court described as a 'frenzy of sexual violence.' Following this assault, John was arrested.
During police interviews, he claimed that the girl had consented to the sexual activity, a statement that was later proven false.
He was released under investigation but was not detained at that time.
The pattern of his predatory behavior was confirmed when he committed a similar attack on another girl 19 months later, in Haverfordwest.
The second victim was out with friends when John approached her and offered to walk her home.
During this encounter, he threatened her, saying, 'If you don't do it I'm going to kill you,' before raping her.
John again insisted that the sexual act was consensual, despite the victim's account and the evidence presented.
Prosecutor James Hartson emphasized the disturbing similarities between the two cases, highlighting that both victims were 16 years old, isolated, and targeted by John in different locations within Pembrokeshire.
He pointed out John's physical strength and his apparent lack of regard for the victims' refusals, stating, 'He's a man who is powerfully built.
When he decided he wanted sex, these two girls—isolated and alone—didn't stand a chance.
This young man doesn’t take no for an answer.' In addition to the sexual assault charges, John faced allegations related to the possession of indecent images of children—one Category B and one Category C—and an extreme pornographic image, all between July and September of the previous year.
These charges further demonstrated his disturbing interest in degrading and violent material.
Judge Huw Rees addressed John directly, condemning his actions and character.
He stated, 'These are undoubtedly serious offences.
Two offences which included features of degradation and violence.
Both were 16 years old.
Both were lured into isolation.
You demeaned both of these girls and in the process you demeaned yourself as a human being.
You have a warped interest in sex.
I readily find that you pose a danger to young girls and young women.' As part of his sentence, John is required to register as a sex offender for life.
Both victims have been granted lifelong restraining orders to prevent any contact with him, ensuring their ongoing safety and protection from further harm.
