CARDIGAN RAPIST NATHAN GRIFFITHS JAILED FOR ATTACK ON GIRL
A man convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl has been sentenced to prison after becoming ‘obsessed’ with her and coercively forcing himself on her.Nathan Griffiths, 33, denied two charges of rape from incidents that took place between January 2014 and January 2015, involving a girl aged 12 or 13.
Both assaults happened on the same day at a property in Newcastle Emlyn when the girl was alone with Griffiths.
Court proceedings revealed that Griffiths developed an unhealthy fixation on the girl, causing her to experience significant distress even after she moved away.
She initially avoided reporting the attacks out of fear of retaliation and blocked him on social media.
The police became involved only after she disclosed the assault around her 18th birthday.
Evidence presented at trial detailed how Griffiths asked her for oral sex while they played Minecraft; when she refused, he forced her to comply and then raped her vaginally.
The girl described being terrified and found it difficult to speak with police, fearing what Griffiths might do to her mother if she reported him.
She also recounted suffering flashbacks and long-lasting psychological trauma.
Griffiths’s defense argued he was immature and had mental and physical health issues, but the court emphasized he was an adult when the offenses occurred.
Judge Geraint Walters sentenced Griffiths to six years for each charge, to be served concurrently, and mandated lifetime sex offender registration.
An indefinite restraining order was also imposed to protect the victim.
The court noted Griffiths’s unhealthy obsession and his view of the girl as a future partner, emphasizing the lasting detrimental impact of his actions on her life.
