GLASGOW WOMAN GUILTY OF CHILD NEGLECT OVER SEVERE BURNS
A woman from Pollok, Glasgow named Natasha Macdonald was found guilty of child neglect related to burns sustained by a 16-month-old girl in her care. The court heard that on 16 April 2017, Macdonald observed the child's injuries but initially minimized their severity by claiming the girl 'had an accident with the kettle and she’s all burnt' and told her mother this story.
She failed to seek immediate medical attention despite the severity of the burns.
Instead, she kept the wounds exposed and cooled, supposedly airing them, and only took the child to the hospital after the police issued threats.
The burns covered extensive areas on the front, back, and right leg of the child, and medical experts noted that the injuries were not consistent with simple scalds or minor accidents.
The paediatric surgeon testified that the injuries were significant, and the story Macdonald provided was deemed implausible given the extent of the burns.
Court proceedings revealed that Macdonald's behavior, including delaying medical treatment and underplaying the injury's severity, contributed to the child's suffering.
The case was deferred for further reports and to obtain current images of the child's injuries.
Macdonald's actions demonstrated neglect that caused pain, discomfort, and potential long-term disfigurement for the child.
