MAN JAILED FOR BLACKMAILING NORTH YORKSHIRE SCHOOLBOY OVER 'SEX TEXTS'
A BLACKMAILER who persuaded a North Yorkshire schoolboy to send him a sexual selfie then used it to extort money from him, has been jailed.The 16-year-old is not the only victim of Nadeem Saleem Abdin, 20, York Crown Court heard.
Laura Addy, prosecuting, said: “Immediately after receiving that photograph, the defendant replied to the complainant with a screenshot of all his contacts list and a threat which stated: If you don’t send me money I will send this picture to all these people,” said the barrister.
The boy, who had a job, sent £300 and as the threat was repeated, more money until Abdin had £670.
The barrister said North Yorkshire Police are currently investigating Abdin, for similar offences against other victims.
They have found at least one other victim who did not want the case involving them to be taken further.
Abdin was cautioned by Leicestershire Police in 2017 for identical offences, she said.
Abdin, of Bayham Street, Camden, London, pleaded guilty to blackmail and causing child pornography.
Judge Simon Hickey said he had committed an “ugly, pernicious crime” against the 16-year-old schoolboy.
He jailed Abdin for 31 months, put him on the sex offenders register and made him subject to a sexual harm prevention order banning him from contacting the 16-year-old and controlling his access to the internet.
Ms Addy said Abdin set up an Instagram profile pretending to be an “attractive Asian” 18-year-old woman.
“It was set up with the one and only purpose of ultimately blackmailing this complainant,” she said.
Within hours of contacting the North Yorkshire boy, Abdin asked him for a sexual selfie.
The boy refused, but on Abdin telling him “everyone does it”, sent a sexual photo.
After receiving £670, Abdin left the boy alone.
But six days later, he demanded more money and the boy told his parents.
For Abdin, Clare Ashcroft said he was only 18 when he committed the offence.
He had done so because he had been threatened “face to face” by a London gang demanding money from him.
