MAN WRECKS WIFE'S HAIR STRAIGHTENERS IN TEMPEST OVER FUNERAL NEWS
A man used a baseball bat to smash his wife's hair straighteners to pieces – after she told him she was going to a family funeral.Nabeel Khan, 21, said he lost his temper because he feared that she was going to leave him and move back in with her parents.
He pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
Prosecutor Natalie Chapman stated that the incident took place at their home on School Crescent, Dewsbury Moor, on November 20.
"The victim sent him a text saying she was going to Preston for a funeral with her parents and they were on their way to the property," she told the court.
"He replied that if she went there, the relationship was over and arrived 10 minutes later, asking to see her phone." "This was not given to him and he entered the bedroom with a baseball bat and smashed her hair straighteners with it before throwing her belongings down the stairs," prosecutors said.
Khan was arrested and told police he was at work when he received the message, which made him angry.
He said he took the baseball bat into the bedroom but believed he was entitled to damage the straighteners because they were a gift from him.
Sam Jackson, his lawyer, highlighted that his client had no previous convictions and had been in a short marriage.
"It had its ups and downs with the complainant going back and forth to her parents' home," Jackson explained.
Magistrates described the offense as aggravated by threatening behavior and controlling conduct.
Khan was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 victim surcharge, and £35 compensation to his wife for the damaged straighteners.
His current address is Heckmondwike.
