PAEDOPHILE GRAHAM RAMSDEN, JAILED FOR HISTORIC OFFENCES
A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for sexual offences he committed more than half a century ago.A detective from West Yorkshire Police said it is "another clear demonstration that the passage of time can be no barrier to justice." Graham Ramsden, of Kirk Close in Dewsbury, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars at Leeds Crown Court today.
The 69-year-old was previously found guilty by a jury of committing 10 indecent assaults in the 1970s against a very young girl.
The offences were eight counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child.
The offending was reported to child safeguarding detectives in 2020 and following a complex and lengthy investigation, Ramsden was summonsed to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court.
"Ramsden’s sentencing today is another clear demonstration that the passage of time can be no barrier to justice, no matter how many years ago criminal activity took place," said Detective Constable Paul Campbell of the Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit.
"He has been brought to justice thanks to the bravery and determination of his victim, who has made him answer for the crimes he committed when she was a very young child." "Thanks to her courage Ramsden has had to answer for the serious sexual abuse he subjected her to and is now behind bars." His sentence includes two years on licence on top of the jail time.
