SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR FALSIFYING ADDRESS AND EVASION
A sex offender named Arron Stones has been sentenced to 40 weeks in jail after lying to police about his address and failing to inform authorities of his move to Dewsbury.
Stones, aged 23, was previously convicted in January last year of engaging in sexual activity with a child under 15.
Despite being placed on the sex offenders' register for five years and given a two-year community order, he was found to have given a false address and did not update police when he moved to Dewsbury, which is a breach of his notification obligations.
The court was informed that Stones falsely claimed on November 17 last year that he was living at a temporary address in Hull, but officers were told that he had never lived there.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman highlighted that as a result, police did not know where he was residing, which was a significant part of the purpose of his order.
Stones was arrested in May at his new address in Edge Avenue but it was not registered with police as required.
During the trial, Stones denied any wrongdoing and claimed he did not need to comply with registration because the court process had ended, but magistrates found him guilty, believing he had deliberately evaded police.
The chairman of the bench, Wayne Perriman, condemned his actions, stating that his false address and deliberate evasion were very serious violations, warranting immediate custody.
The judge ordered him to serve a total of 40 weeks in prison and pay a victim surcharge of £115 upon release.
