MURRAY LENG FROM ALTRINCHAM RECEIVES CAUTION FOR CHILD PORN AT WORK IN LANCASHIRE
In May 2005, Murray Leng-Smith, a 55-year-old accountant from Altrincham, was cautioned by police after being arrested for downloading child pornography. The incident arose from concerns at Lancashire County Cricket Club, where Leng-Smith had been employed for several years before resigning following his arrest in November 2004.Leng-Smith was caught after the club reported suspicions about his online activity. He was arrested on November 20, 2004, while at his home and subsequently released on police bail while officers examined his computer equipment. During a search of his residence, police discovered four computer hard drives.
On Monday, May 16, 2005, Leng-Smith completed his bail at Stretford police station, where he was formally cautioned and was required to sign onto the sex offenders' register. A police spokesperson stated, "A 55-year-old man from Altrincham answered bail on Monday, 16 May 2005 after he was arrested on Saturday, 20 November 2004 on suspicion of downloading indecent images. The man received a caution and was made to sign the Sex Offenders Register."
Lancashire County Cricket Club's spokesperson Bob Bion commented, "The club has nothing further to say."
