A MAN HAS BEEN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING AN ELDERLY CARE HOME RESIDENT WHO SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA
At Reading Crown Court, Muhammad Arshad was handed a sentence of seven and a half years in prison. The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and lifelong registration as a sex offender on the 37-year-old from Reading.
The conviction was for sexually assaulting an elderly woman at a care home in Berkshire.
In a court appearance in January, Arshad pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a woman with a mental health disorder, having been charged the previous October.
Leading the Thames Valley Police investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Laura Corscadden remarked that Arshad’s actions were "absolutely horrific." She explained, "He was in a caregiving role where he was expected to protect and support, but he severely violated that trust by assaulting an elderly woman, believing he would evade justice." Corscadden highlighted that the victim and her relatives had been profoundly affected by Arshad’s despicable conduct.
She also acknowledged their courage and the support system they relied on throughout the investigation.
"Although he is now imprisoned, I understand that the trauma inflicted by his actions remains for the victim and her family," she added.
