A man has been jailed for rape, assault and coercive behaviour.
Alexander Oliver, 36, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Reading Crown Court on August 14 after pleading guilty to two counts of rape, engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The offences, which took place in Berkshire between 2018 and 2023, involved repeated abuse against his victim, including rape, assault, and sustained controlling behaviour.
Detective Constable George Randell of Slough CID commented, "I would like to pay tribute to the victim for her courage in coming forward and reporting these offences and for her support throughout what was a long investigation.
Oliver’s behaviour was absolutely abhorrent, and I am pleased that he spared the victim the ordeal of a trial and admitted his guilt to these offences." The crimes were reported to Thames Valley Police in 2023, leading to a detailed investigation.
Oliver was arrested on July 1, 2024, charged on April 22, 2024, and pleaded guilty in June.
He was also issued a restraining order.
The article also encourages others who have experienced similar abuse to contact police for support.
