MAN JAILED FOR TWO YEARS AFTER HE STRANGLED A WOMAN WITH A PHONE CABLE AND TOLD HER HE WAS GOING TO KILL HER
Andrew Weeks, who is 61 years old and currently has no fixed address, admitted guilt to possessing a knuckleduster during a hearing at Reading Crown Court on April 24 of the previous year.He was also convicted of intentionally strangling someone and causing actual bodily harm through assault.
Following an appeal that he lost on October 27 of the previous year, Weeks received a sentence of two years in prison on February 23 at the same court.
Additionally, he was ordered to adhere to a five-year restraining order.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2022, at a residence in Padworth, where Weeks assaulted the victim.
During the assault, he became physically aggressive, strangled her, and issued threats, including that he intended to kill her.
He proceeded to slap and punch her face, while also pulling a telephone from the wall and using the cord to strangle her again.
The woman, in her sixties, sustained facial injuries, bruising, scratches, and marks around her neck caused by ligature.
Weeks was taken into custody on the same day and formally charged on January 9 of the following year.
West Berkshire police investigator Colin Squibb, from the domestic abuse unit, emphasized the severity of the assault, describing it as unprovoked and extremely dangerous.
He noted that Weeks tore the landline cable from the wall when the victim tried to call for help and used the cord to choke her.
Weeks fled the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward by officers who found him wandering in the road after being approached by passers-by.
Investigators praise the bravery of the victim and the cooperation of the public.
Detective Squibb expressed satisfaction that Weeks has been sentenced and reaffirmed the commitment of Thames Valley Police to tackling domestic violence, asserting that such offenses will not be tolerated.
