LONDON SOLICITOR JAILED FOR LIFE FOR KILLING WIFE
Mohammed Rahman, a solicitor employed at the Tower Hamlet Law Centre, was convicted of the murder of his wife, Jasmin Chowdhury, at their residence in the Isle of Dogs, located in south-east London. The incident took place last December, during which Ms Chowdhury was found to be in a critically injured state, and she succumbed three days later.
Rahman was sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum term of 18 years after a jury found him guilty of murder.
The sentencing judge, Timothy Pontius, remarked that there was clear evidence of frequent verbal and physical abuse by Rahman towards his wife, noting his propensity to lose temper, especially around women involved with him.
Testimony during the trial revealed that Rahman, while engaged in an extramarital affair, assaulted Ms Chowdhury the day after her birthday.
Following the attack, he sent her sister a message demanding the removal of her 'dead body from [his] flat.' Family members described Jasmin Chowdhury as a compassionate, thoughtful, and beautiful person.
It emerged during proceedings that Rahman had a long history of physical abuse, which included causing her to sustain black eyes and bruises, though she had not previously contacted authorities.
Rahman insisted he did not inflict the fatal injuries, claiming she was emotionally disturbed and engaged in self-harm.
The court acknowledged his violent tendencies and infidelity as contributing factors in the tragic death.
