MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TWO WOMEN A WEEK APART
Mohammed Mirzai, 24, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, April 9, 2026, after previously pleading guilty to two charges of sexual assault. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and must pay a victim surcharge.
—————————————————————————————————— An asylum seeker is facing jail after carrying out two near-identical sex attacks on trains – before being caught crawling on the floor of a Perth swimming pool changing area to spy on a vulnerable woman.
Mohammed Mirzai, 24, originally from Afghanistan, admitted targeting two separate women on ScotRail services within just over a week.
Both attacks happened on trains travelling between Glasgow Queen Street and Polmont in Stirlingshire.
On March 14, 2025, Mirzai touched the upper thigh of a woman during a journey.
Just eight days later, on March 22, he struck again in the same manner on another service along the same route.
British Transport Police arrested him and he later pleaded guilty to both offences at Falkirk Sheriff Court.
Court papers listed his address as the Radisson Blu Hotel in Perth – known locally as the Station Hotel – accommodation used by the Home Office to house asylum seekers.
But the train assaults were not the end of it.
While on bail for those offences, Mirzai committed another sexual crime.
On October 25, 2025, at Perth Leisure Pool, he lay flat on the floor of a cubicle and peered underneath the partition to watch a 28-year-old woman as she dried herself after swimming.
The woman, who has a disability and had been attending physiotherapy, spotted him staring up at her legs and feet.
She later described feeling “violated” by what the sheriff called a “terrifying” incident.
Mirzai admitted voyeurism.
He was still inside the leisure centre when police arrived.
At Perth Sheriff Court, Sheriff William Wood placed him on the sex offenders register, warning that the length of time he remains subject to notification requirements will depend on the sentence imposed.
Back at Falkirk Sheriff Court, Sheriff Maryam Labaki revoked his bail and remanded him in custody, stating she was concerned about the risk he posed to the public.
Speaking through a Dari interpreter, she told him the charges were serious and highlighted that he committed a further offence while already on bail.
A criminal justice social work report has been ordered to assess the risk he presents.
Sentencing in the Perth case is due this week, with the Falkirk matter continuing later this month.
A full narration of the train attack facts will be heard at the next court hearing.
