TEENAGER JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT
A young man has been sentenced to 12 months by a judge at Maidstone Crown Court for a sex assault on a 15-year-old girl. The offender, Mohammed Jalloh, now 19, is already due for release after spending six months in custody since his arrest.
Jalloh, originally from Sierra Leone, was charged with rape but was acquitted of that charge; jury members found him guilty of indecent assault, leading to his sentencing.
His lawyer argued there had been some encouragement from the girl, whom he believed to be 18, but as she was only 15, she could not legally consent to sexual activity.
Jalloh's appeal against the government's refusal to allow him to stay in the UK was also ongoing.
During custody, he suffered from the effects of a broken jaw from a prison incident.
Details of the incident indicated that Jalloh and others were at a house in Fox Street, Gillingham, when the girl and friends visited.
The girl claims Jalloh followed her to his bedroom, pushed her onto the bed, and had sex with her, despite her denying flirting and not recalling sitting next to him on the sofa.
Jalloh, who denied both charges, claimed he thought she was 18.
The judge considered her age and the issue of consent in the sentencing.
