RAPIST ATTACKED TEEN WHILST SHE SLEPT
On 6 March 2014, a man was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court for raping a teenage girl while she was asleep.Mohammed Hussain, aged 23 and residing on Clarence Road in Peterborough, committed the assault at a residence in Orton Goldhay.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 7 November 2012, after a gathering at that address.
The victim, an 18-year-old woman, awoke to find Hussain on top of her and attempted to resist.
Despite her efforts, he was too overpowering and proceeded to rape her before leaving the scene.
Following the assault, she left the property and flagged down a passing police vehicle.
Officers subsequently responded to the address, arrested Hussain, and brought him into custody.
He was initially charged with rape, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict after the first trial.
He was later convicted after a second trial in January.
Hussain, who had no prior criminal record, received a six-year prison sentence on 28 February at Peterborough Crown Court.
During sentencing, Judge Nic Madge commented that Hussain exploited a highly intoxicated woman for his own sexual pleasure, and that his intoxication at the time did not serve as a mitigating factor.
The victim sustained bruising from the attack.
Detective Constable Rob Sansom described the ordeal as horrendous and praised the victim for her bravery in testifying twice, expressing hope that the sentence would help her move forward with her life.
