MOHAMED IIDOW'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN LONDON: MAN FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER AND RAPE IN SOUTHALL
A tragic and disturbing case has culminated in the conviction of Mohamed Iidow, a 35-year-old man from London, for the brutal manslaughter and rape of a woman in Southall. The case, which involved a detailed and extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police, has shocked the local community and highlighted the severity of violent crimes committed in the area.
Mohamed Iidow, whose address is listed as St Paul’s Close, Hounslow, was found guilty on Friday, 18 October, after a three-week trial held at the Old Bailey.
The court heard how the victim, Natalie Shotter, aged 37, was discovered dead in Southall Park on the afternoon of Friday, 16 July 2021.
Her body was found by a member of the public who reported the incident to authorities.
The circumstances surrounding her death revealed a horrifying sequence of events that led to her tragic demise.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, leading the investigation from Specialist Crime South, described the case as deeply disturbing.
He emphasized the predatory nature of Iidow’s attack, stating, “Iidow’s predatory attack on Natalie was disturbing and shocking.
This man drove to the park that night and took advantage of a vulnerable woman who should have been safe.” Jolley also highlighted the defendant’s attempt to deny responsibility, noting, “Even after his arrest, Iidow attempted to claim that his actions were consensual.” The detective praised the resilience of Natalie’s friends and family, acknowledging the emotional toll of the case.
He explained that the police had to undertake meticulous work, including expert analysis, to establish that Natalie’s death was directly linked to the sexual assault.
“This case has deeply affected those involved, due to its rarity and tragic details.
We needed to prove Natalie’s death was caused by being raped, which involved diligent work using experts in this field to charge and now convict Iidow,” Jolley said.
The conviction ensures that justice is served for the victim and her loved ones.
Investigations revealed that prior to her death, Natalie had been socializing with friends in Southall.
She was last seen on CCTV footage, which showed her in the company of friends before she fell unconscious on a park bench.
The footage also captured Iidow walking past her multiple times before approaching her.
The footage then showed him repeatedly raping her, after which he left her on the bench and drove away from the scene.
At approximately 05:42 hours, a member of the public discovered Natalie unresponsive on the park bench and promptly contacted the police.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, but sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
The investigation team used CCTV footage to identify Iidow as a suspect.
He was arrested at his home in Hounslow on suspicion of rape on 4 August 2021.
During police interviews, Iidow refused to answer most questions and attempted to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that the sexual activity was consensual.
However, the police, working with a range of experts, conducted a thorough and complex investigation.
Their efforts proved that Natalie’s death was directly linked to the rape she endured.
Based on this evidence, Iidow was formally charged with manslaughter and rape on 21 December 2021.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 13 December, where the court will determine the length of his imprisonment.
The case underscores the importance of diligent police work and expert analysis in bringing justice for victims of violent crimes in London and beyond.
