MOHAMED AL FAYED: THE NOTORIOUS SEX OFFENDER
Police believe Mohamed Al Fayed may have raped and abused at least 111 women and girls over nearly four decades, with his youngest victim said to have been just 13 years old.The scale of the criminality would make Fayed, who died last year at the age of 94, one of Britain’s most notorious sex offenders, and raises urgent questions about how he got away with his crimes.
The crimes span between 1977 and 2014.
The investigation involves a review of over 50,000 pages of evidence, victim and impact statements, and material stored in police archives.
Five unidentified individuals suspected of facilitating Fayed are being looked into as potential 'facilitators.' Scotland Yard is examining the possibility that past police investigations missed opportunities or were compromised by corruption, with claims of police officers accepting gifts and bribes to aid Fayed.
The Met police has referred cases from 2008 to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, acknowledging past shortcomings.
Fayed, the former owner of Harrods, died last year at age 94, and the police are now actively pursuing individuals believed to have been complicit in his offending, despite his death.
The investigation emphasizes giving survivors a voice and seeking justice for their experiences, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
