MICHAEL WILLIS CHARGED WITH ABUSE IN BIRKENHEAD AND CHESTER
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local communities of Birkenhead and Chester, a former medical professional has admitted to serious criminal conduct involving an eight-year-old boy.Michael Robert Willis, aged 50, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court to face charges related to incidents that occurred over two decades ago.
Willis, who previously resided on Howbeck Close in Birkenhead, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault against the young boy.
These offences took place in 1973, when Willis was living in the Chester area and was serving as an assistant Scout master.
The victim, now 32 years old, came forward earlier this year, leading to the charges being brought against Willis.
During the court proceedings, Willis denied two additional allegations of indecent assault against the same individual.
The court ordered these charges to be left on file, meaning they will not proceed to trial unless further evidence emerges.
Willis was remanded on bail until October 29, allowing time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
Legal representatives for Willis, including his defence counsel Mr.
Stuart Driver, emphasized that Willis is no longer practicing as a doctor.
He also pointed out that there has never been any suggestion of misconduct related to Willis’s professional duties during his career.
Mr.
Driver acknowledged that typically, such offences might result in a prison sentence, but he intends to argue that there are exceptional circumstances that warrant leniency in Willis’s case.
It was also noted that Willis had resigned from his position as a General Practitioner following the allegations coming to light earlier this year.
The court proceedings continue as authorities consider the appropriate sentencing, and the case remains a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from abuse, regardless of the passage of time.
