MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OFFENCES
Declan Marno appeared before Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 19 May, where he received a sentence of six years in prison. The 24-year-old, who resides on Peckforton Way in Chester, had previously admitted guilt to charges of rape and sexual assault.
The incident came to light after the victim, an 18-year-old woman, contacted Cheshire Police via the 101 emergency number on Friday, 4 April 2025.
She reported that on 28 March, she had been subjected to oral rape and sexual assault by Marno during a night out in Chester city centre, where he had joined her and her friends.
The woman explained that after their night out, the group returned to her friend's residence.
It was then arranged that Marno and the victim would sleep on opposite ends of a sofa for the night.
During the night, Marno pulled down her shirt and carried out sexual assaulting actions, including oral rape.
The victim lost consciousness at some point but later confronted Marno the next morning, stating that she remembered what he had done.
Marno acknowledged the assault and the oral rape, and after the victim's courageous report to police, he was detained and taken into custody.
Initially, he provided police with a written statement denying any guilt and refused to answer questions.
Nonetheless, he pleaded guilty to the charges during his first court appearance in February 2026.
