BIRKENHEAD MAN SENTENCED OVER 'CYBER-FLASHING' OFFENCE
A Wirral man has admitted a 'cyber-flashing' offence.Cyber-flashing typically involves offenders sending an unsolicited sexual image to people via social media or dating apps, but can also be over data sharing services such as Bluetooth and Airdrop.
It became a criminal offence in England and Wales under the Online Safety Act 2023, effective from January 31 2024.
On February 25 2026, Andrew Pilcher, 32, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court after earlier pleading guilty to an offence of sending a photograph or film of genitals to cause alarm, distress or humiliation.
The court heard Pilcher, of Highfield Grove, Birkenhead sent the image to his female victim on July 17 2024.
Pilcher was made the subject of a 12 month community order and will have to undergo six months of alcohol treatment.
He was also ordered to participate in 30 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement, fined £150 and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
Pilcher was also made the subject of a 12 month restraining order not to contact the victim and was ordered to pay £85 costs and £114 victim surcharge.
