CHESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER BRUTAL GIRLFRIEND ATTACK
A man who attacked his girlfriend and left her to die at their home with more than 100 injuries has been sentenced to life imprisonment for her murder.
Tony Devenport, 57, violently assaulted Stephanie Blundell on Canal Street in Chester, and her body was discovered by her father on 20 July last year.
The couple had met about a year prior while both were receiving support for alcohol addiction.
Devenport, who was found guilty after a trial at Chester Crown Court, received a minimum sentence of 22 years.
The trial revealed that Philip Blundell contacted police after finding his daughter lying on a blood-soaked mattress with severe bruising and injuries across her face, neck, and body.
The police report indicated Devenport was wandering the house intoxicated and repeatedly saying, "I think she's dead," but he denied responsibility, claiming she had died peacefully due to her alcohol struggles.
Post-mortem examination showed 102 injuries, including to her brain, fractures consistent with strangulation or asphyxiation, and severe facial bruising.
