MICHAEL THOMPSON FROM WIGAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BOLTON
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Michael Thompson, a man with a troubling history, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a series of heinous child sex offences.The proceedings took place at Bolton Crown Court, where Thompson, aged 31 and residing on Leigh Street, was found guilty of multiple counts involving the abuse of young children.
Thompson’s criminal record is extensive, with previous convictions including a violent assault on his sister’s disabled partner, which involved using a baseball bat.
His past offences have marked him as a significant threat to society, a fact that was underscored by his own mother, who labeled him a “danger to society” more than ten years ago.
The recent charges against Thompson include three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault, all involving children under the age of 13.
The severity of his crimes prompted the court to impose a substantial sentence, with Thompson receiving 17 years for the first count of rape, and two additional 13-year sentences for the subsequent counts.
These sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the maximum of 17 years before being considered for release.
In addition to the prison terms, Thompson was handed a four-year sentence for a separate count of sexual assault.
The fifth count of sexual assault was not pursued further and will be left on file.
The court also imposed a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior post-release.
The judge emphasized the gravity of Thompson’s actions and the danger he poses to the community.
If he is deemed suitable for release after serving his minimum term, he will be subject to a three-year period on licence, during which his conduct will be closely supervised to prevent any further harm.
