MICHAEL MCQUEENIE SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE NEAR BLACKBURN SCHOOL
In January 2015, a disturbing case of sexual assault unfolded near a school in Blackburn, involving a man named Michael McQueenie.The 28-year-old offender was convicted of heinous crimes against a vulnerable 14-year-old girl and subsequently sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
McQueenie, who resided on Highbury Place in Blackburn, was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting the young girl after luring her into a secluded wooded area adjacent to St James’ playing field.
The attack was described as particularly callous, with McQueenie exploiting the girl’s vulnerability and trust to carry out his assault.
The incident occurred when McQueenie persuaded the girl to follow him into the wooded area, where he then demanded she remove her clothing.
He proceeded to commit a sexual assault, subjecting her to a terrifying ordeal that left her traumatized.
The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and rape during an earlier hearing, which paved the way for the sentencing.
Following the attack, the girl’s father, who had gone out searching for her, unexpectedly encountered the scene.
McQueenie fled the scene immediately upon being discovered, leaving the young victim behind.
The police investigation was bolstered by information from local residents, which proved crucial in tracking down the offender.
Detective Chief Inspector Dean Holden of Lancashire Police’s force major investigation team commented on the case, stating, “This was a callous attack in which McQueenie preyed on a vulnerable young girl, enticing her to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her.” He further explained that the police were able to apprehend McQueenie thanks to the cooperation of the community, including witnesses and the use of CCTV footage.
Holden expressed gratitude to those who assisted in the investigation, acknowledging their vital role in bringing the offender to justice.
McQueenie’s sentencing included a term of 11 years and seven months in prison.
Additionally, he will be subject to a lifelong Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life.
The case has left a lasting impact on the victim and her family, but authorities hope that justice being served will allow them to begin the process of healing and moving forward.
