BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LEAVING DOG IN UNTREATED INJURY
The article reports that Michael Leonard Rowlands, born around 1980, of 66 Newstead Road, Kingstanding, Birmingham, was convicted in 2025 of a cruelty case involving his dog.
The RSPCA investigated after a member of the public raised welfare concerns about a dog at his address.
Officers found an eight-month-old boxer-type dog named Kane with a large, untreated infected wound across his neck and cheek.
Rowlands claimed that the injury happened during a fight with another dog, Able.
The dog was rescued and treated at an animal hospital, then cared for by the RSPCA.
During court proceedings, Rowlands admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to Kane between September 14 and 19, 2024, by failing to seek veterinary care despite knowing the dog was in pain.
Both Kane and Able were signed over to the RSPCA's care.
Inspector Fiona Howell emphasized that animals deserve proper living conditions and medical care.
Rowlands was sentenced to four weeks in immediate custody and banned from keeping animals for 10 years, a period that can be appealed after five years and expires in June 2035.
