PRESTON MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER ASSAULTING PARTNER WITH RUM AND HIDING KNIFE
A thug who assaulted his partner with a bottle of rum in front of their young children has received a suspended prison sentence.Michael Jones, aged 32, was also found to have a knife on him, which he attempted to conceal inside a confectionery stand, as revealed in Preston Crown Court.
The incident occurred on February 26 during an argument at their Preston home, where Jones accused his partner of infidelity.
Following the altercation, he took their baby son and left the residence, despite pleas from his partner for him to stay and leave the children behind.
Jones then proceeded to a nearby shop in Plungington Road, calling a taxi while his partner and two other children followed.
She knocked on the shop’s 24-hour window to get the shop assistant’s attention and asked the taxi driver not to leave with her child.
Jones exited the taxi, placed the baby on the pavement, and entered the shop, where he picked up a bottle of rum and struck his partner with it before punching her.
He then returned to the street, produced a knife he had taken from their home, but tried to hide it in a confectionery stand upon police arrival.
Jones was arrested, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm (ABH) and possession of an offensive weapon, and was found to be wanted on a warrant related to a 2017 domestic violence offense.
The court sentenced him to a year in prison, suspended for two years, noting his conduct was shameful and criticizing his behavior towards women, especially in front of children and in public.
The judge also ordered him to undertake 20 days of rehabilitation activity and imposed a five-year restraining order.
