HERTFORDSHIRE POLICEMAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A serving police officer known for predatory conduct has been convicted and sentenced to prison on charges of child sexual offenses.Sgt Michael Grigg, aged 34 and part of Hertfordshire Police, received a six-and-a-half-year sentence at Harrow Crown Court.
A jury found him guilty of engaging in penetrative sexual acts with a minor on two separate occasions.
Law enforcement officials stated that the crimes occurred while he was functioning as a cadet leader, describing his actions as a severe abuse of his official position.
He is now on the lifetime sex offenders register and subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
Previously from Hatfield, Grigg was detained during an investigation managed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which was executed by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Safeguarding Command, police disclosed.
Detective Superintendent Michael Trotman stated: "Grigg's predatory actions amounted to a gross abuse of his position of trust in the most calculated and appalling way.
"We pay tribute to the courage of the victim, who bravely came forward and had to go through the ordeal of giving evidence at court.
"Grigg's lack of remorse throughout the course of the investigation and subsequent trial has been startling." He further mentioned that the police department has amended its policies concerning the management of cadet records, following IOPC recommendations and national standards.
The officer has been suspended from his duties and will be subject to a misconduct hearing.
