MAN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN FOUR YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A man has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after previously confessing to charges related to child sexual offences.

Calin Rus, aged 47 and residing in Hatfield, appeared before St Albans Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, 23 January 2026.

At the court hearing held on Tuesday, 16 September last year, Rus pleaded guilty to several charges, including attempting to facilitate sexual activity with a child under 13, possessing and sharing an indecent image of a child, and attempting to communicate sexually with a minor.

Judge Johnson sentenced Rus to a total of four years and eight months’ imprisonment for all three charges, which will run concurrently.

Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order will be imposed after his release.

Rus was initially identified by Hertfordshire’s Child Online Safeguarding Team, following intelligence received from the National Crime Agency.

The information indicated that a Snapchat account user had uploaded material depicting child sexual abuse.

He had also arranged to view a live-streamed sexual abuse he believed involved a ten-year-old girl, but he was actually interacting with another adult user.

Rus was arrested on August 14, 2025, at a commercial premises on Market Place in Hatfield, in connection with the offences.

He was detained and remanded into custody the following day.
