STRATFORD MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC RAPE AND ORDERED TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER FOR LIFE
A man identified as Michael Chai, aged 36 and residing on Lodge Road in Stratford, has received a four-year prison sentence after forcibly assaulting a woman in her own residence.Chai was convicted of raping the woman following an evening spent together.
The sentencing took place at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, during which he was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life once released.
Warwickshire Police regarded the case as a significant milestone, emphasizing their dedication to pursuing convictions in domestic rape cases.
After the incident, the victim escaped her home in south Warwickshire and contacted authorities within hours.
Chai was swiftly apprehended afterward.
Detective Inspector Antony Mumford commented, “The woman explicitly told Chai she did not want to have sex.
Despite her clear communication, he disregarded her wishes and committed the assault.
The prompt police report enabled our specialist officers to gather her account while her memory was still recent, allowing us to arrest him quickly and prevent further harm.” The police commended the victim’s courage in coming forward and providing evidence, viewing the case as an important step in addressing domestic sexual violence.
