NORTH LONDON OFFENDER JAILED FOR ASSAULTING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHILE OUT ON LICENSE
A North London armed robber, Michael Brothers, has been re-incarcerated after grooming and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl while on license. The 41-year-old from Queen's Park was sentenced to 12 years at Southwark Crown Court on June 21 after being convicted of five counts of sexual activity with a child following a trial.
Brothers had previously served time, including nearly 10 years after a 2017 raid on Poundland where he threatened staff with a crowbar and stole £3,000.
He was also involved in other robberies, with an accomplice jailed as well.
Released from prison in February 2023, Brothers experienced personal tragedies, losing a child to cot death and breaking up with his partner.
During the trial, Brothers claimed he was feeling lonely and had not had sex in a while, and expressed feelings of shame and disgust about his actions.
The court heard how, in autumn 2024, he approached and engaged in sexual acts with the victim, including oral sex and vaginal penetration without a condom, after luring her to a park with alcohol.
He stopped after she complained of pain, but then re-abused her later that night.
He was arrested after DNA evidence linked him to the scene.
Brothers denied some allegations, claiming he believed she was 18 and looked homeless, but the jury was unconvinced.
The victim stated her life was 'ruined' by the abuse and expressed her pain, saying, 'I want people to see me for me, not what happened.
I hate who it made me become from my whole heart.
I'm always grumpy and anxious.
It affects everyone around me.' The judge described Brothers' actions as a clear violation of her vulnerability and sentenced him to 12 years with an extended license, meaning he will serve at least six years before being eligible for parole.
The sentences for the five counts, which included oral and vaginal acts, were served concurrently.
The judge remarked that Brothers' feelings of shame do not excuse his conduct and emphasized that he must take responsibility for his actions.
