NEWPORT MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER MULTIPLE TIMES
A NEWPORT man who assaulted his partner multiple times using a bedside lamp and his trainers has been jailed.
Michael Bristow, 33, admitted three counts of assault by beating against his partner dating back to August 2019.
The prosecutor, Marian Lewis, told the court that the relationship began in November 2018 and was described as rocky.
The court heard that in August 2019, Bristow struck his partner with a bedside lamp when they were at home and had been drinking.
In June 2020, he struck her across the back with his trainers and punched her in the face as she tried to get up, causing bruising and swelling.
The third incident occurred on April 16, at their home with her two young children, after an argument about her meeting another man.
Bristow threw his trainer at her, leading to police being called and his subsequent arrest.
During the sentencing, Judge Wayne Beard noted that Bristow’s relationship was explosive and involved violence.
He highlighted that Bristow’s actions during these incidents could have caused serious harm, especially as one involved his partner’s children witnessing the event.
Bristow was sentenced to a total of seven months in prison, which included two months for breaching a suspended sentence, four months concurrently for the first assault, two months consecutively for the June 2020 assault, and one month consecutively for the April incident.
He was also made subject to a five-year restraining order and ordered to pay a £149 surcharge.
