SERIAL RAPIST MICHAEL EASTMAN GETS 120 YEARS IN OREGON
A man convicted of multiple first-degree rape charges was sentenced Friday morning to 120 years in prison for his crimes.Michael Allen Eastman, 29, was found guilty last year of three counts of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree kidnapping in connection with the July 11, 2012, sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in a field near Interstate 105.Eastman was sentenced to 30 years for each of the four convictions, Deputy District Attorney Robert Lane said. The sentences will be served consecutively, totaling 120 years in prison.Judge Debra Vogt classified Eastman as a dangerous offender, which allows a sentence of up to 30 years for each conviction, due to his severe personality disorder and past violent felony convictions.Eastman, who is homeless, had a psychiatric history going back to age 11, including antisocial personality disorder and possible schizophrenia, with his mother once seeking a restraining order against him for threats and psychotic episodes. Both Eastman and the victim had been camping in a field behind businesses on Oakway Road in July 2012.
The woman was attacked after a man approached her early in the morning, declared his intention to rape her, assaulted her, and dragged her into a ditch where he beat her.
She identified Eastman as the suspect based on court papers found in clothing left at the scene, and he was arrested the next day. This case highlights Eastman's long history of violent and sexual offenses, with earlier convictions including burglary and attempted sexual abuse in 2006.Sentencing was delayed for psychological evaluations and records review to establish his dangerous offender status.
