METAB YASIN'S SHOCKING CRIME IN SHERWOOD AND WEST BRIDGFORD: TEACHER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES WITH STUDENT
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Sherwood and West Bridgford, Metab Yasin, a former teacher at Nottingham Emmanuel School, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for engaging in sexual activities with a pupil.The incident, which took place in July 2010, involved Yasin, who was 30 years old at the time, having a sexual relationship with a student, resulting in her becoming pregnant.
Yasin subsequently persuaded the girl to undergo an abortion at six weeks, a decision that has added to the gravity of his misconduct.
During the trial at Nottingham Crown Court, a jury unanimously convicted Yasin on five counts of sexual activity with a person in a position of trust.
Conversely, he was acquitted of three additional charges of sexual activity with a child and one charge of inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual acts.
The court heard that Yasin did not physically force the girl into sexual activity; however, his position of authority as her teacher was deemed a significant factor in the offense.
Judge Michael Stokes QC emphasized the breach of trust involved in the case, stating, “This activity is an offence for one reason only, namely at the relevant time you were a person in a position of trust, namely a teacher at the school she attended.” The court also ordered Yasin to be placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his actions.
Yasin, who resides on Poplar Avenue in Sherwood, denied all allegations throughout the proceedings.
He claimed that after the girl left school, he merely offered her advice and that she later called him “a good friend.” During police interviews, he stated that the girl, who was no longer a student, had tried to make an advance towards him when he dropped her off after a school event.
Yasin insisted he told her to get off him and that he had informed his wife about the incident.
Following his conviction, Yasin was dismissed from his teaching position.
His legal representative indicated that he would never be able to return to teaching.
The court was also informed that Yasin has faced social ostracism, with reports of him being abused on the street and objects thrown at his property.
Currently, he is working in the building trade with a friend, attempting to rebuild his life after the scandal.
Michael Duck, representing Yasin in mitigation, highlighted the social repercussions he has faced, stating, “He has been abused on the street and people have thrown things at his premises.” The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating impact of breaches of trust and the importance of safeguarding young students from exploitation.
