HAMPSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR SERIOUSLY INJURING VULNERABLE BABY
July 2023: A four-week-old infant was severely physically harmed by McCauley Silverthorne, who caused a total of 29 fractures in the child's body, including broken ribs and leg bones, in addition to significant head injuries.During court proceedings, the case was described as 'truly horrific.' The baby was taken to hospital on March 13, 2019, where medical staff identified fractured ribs and numerous other fractures across the body.
Medical experts confirmed that these injuries were not accidental, which led to Silverthorne’s charges in 2021.
After a trial, Silverthorne, aged 25, was found guilty of causing or permitting serious physical injury to the child on March 29 and received a prison sentence of five and a half years.
Portsmouth Crown Court heard that injuries to the child's head, in particular, could result in long-term health issues.
Detective Superintendent Liam Davies emphasized the gravity of the case, citing the significant police efforts involved, and praised Detective Sergeant Dan Hayward, who led the investigation.
