LEAMINGTON MAN JAILED AFTER REPEATEDLY ASSAULTING AND THREATENING PARTNER FOR 12 MONTHS
A man from Leamington, described as 'excessively jealous,' undergone approximately a year of controlling and abusive conduct towards his partner, which included repeated assaults and threats.Warwick Crown Court sentenced Max Harrison to two years and three months in prison, especially noting his prior conviction for assaulting a former partner.
Harrison, aged 27 and residing in Burbury Close, initially pleaded not guilty to charges of using controlling or coercive behavior in a relationship but changed his plea to guilty on the day of his court appearance.
Prosecutor Marcus Harry revealed that Harrison had been in a relationship with the complainant since early 2015.
The relationship worsened around April 2016, when she reported it turned physically and emotionally abusive.
The woman described Harrison's jealousy as extreme; he often grabbed her by the neck and attempted to strangle her, only to then apologize.
To manipulate her emotionally and induce guilt, he would sometimes engage in self-harm in her presence.
Harrison also sent her various messages—some threatening and others centered on his feelings, claiming she was responsible for his behavior.
Attempts to leave the relationship were met with Harrison’s anger, but she eventually managed to exit around July 2016.
Afterwards, he persistently contacted her, making 40 to 50 phone calls daily and visiting her residence.
His threats intensified when she started a new relationship, with daily threatening messages.
Their relationship briefly rekindled in September 2016, but Harrison continued to behave in an intimidating and controlling manner.
On one occasion, he waited for her in her garden late at night and forced his way into her home.
Over a year, such incidents occurred multiple times, sometimes accompanied by violence, according to Mr.
Harry.
The court also noted that Harrison had a previous conviction for common assault against a woman, who displayed similar controlling behavior during their relationship.
Judge Andrew Lockhart QC imposed a restraining order, prohibiting Harrison from contacting the woman or approaching her residence.
