CARE HOME RAPIST JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER ASSAULT ON DISABLED WOMAN IN WARWICKSHIRE
2001: The man accused of carrying out the sexual assault is Ian Fraser McDonald, aged 34 years, residing on Landor Road in Leamington.
His capture followed DNA tests that conclusively linked him to the crime, with a statistical chance of only one in 120,000 that he was not the perpetrator.
McDonald, who has a history of previous convictions for aggravated burglary, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, with a judge, Mr Justice Hughes, setting a minimum term of six years before eligible for parole.
It emerged that this was McDonald’s second incident at the same care home, as the victim had been attacked before; in June, another individual was jailed for an unrelated indecent assault on her.
The victim’s mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, shared her relief at the sentencing outcome while describing her daughter’s ongoing health challenges, including brain damage and memory loss, and her inability to meet with family members due to her wheelchair dependence.
Additionally, she announced her intention to undertake civil proceedings against Castel Froma, the care home on Lillington Road where her daughter was staying during the assault, and to contact the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board for support.
