A foul-tempered boyfriend has been slapped with a restraining order after lashing out against the mother of his child.Matthew Woodall lost his cool after being accused of infidelity.
North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the 35-year-old had been sleeping next to his then-partner at their former Longton home on February 9 last year.
But he soon found himself in a heated argument after she discovered messages on his phone.
Prosecutor Lee Stone told the court: “Officers were called by the defendant’s ex-partner, who had woken him up at 12.15am.
She had discovered messages on his phone which led her to believe that he was being unfaithful to her.
She asked him to leave the property and the pair began to argue.
He became aggressive and pushed her over, leading her to fall onto her back.
Her 15-year-old son was present.” A victim impact statement was also shared with the court.
It read: “The lasting impact of this assault has caused me to struggle with anxiety and depression.
It has made me struggle with trust and confidence, things I never had much trouble with before.
I never want to see him again.” Woodall, of Sutton Street, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to assault by beating on November 11.
Representing himself in court, Woodall said that he ‘didn’t beat her’, highlighting that he pushed his victim.
He also stated that he was ‘more than happy to have a restraining order’.
A remorseful-looking Woodall added: “I’m just trying to do everything by the book and be good.
My main concern is that I want to see my daughter.” Woodall was slapped with an 18-month community order, requiring him to complete a 20-day accredited program, 20 rehabilitation days and a 120-day alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement.
He was also given a 12-month restraining order and ordered to pay £514 in costs.
