WOMAN JAILED FOR BREACHING DOMESTIC ABUSE ORDER IN HARTLEPOOL
A woman named Mary Douglas, aged 36, has been sentenced to nine weeks in prison for breaching a Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO).The order was granted at Teesside Magistrates' Court on March 14 and remains in effect for three months.
Douglas was arrested after police responded to a disturbance on Tuesday, March 25, at a property she was prohibited from entering.
She pleaded guilty to the breach during her court appearance on March 28.
The incident occurred in Hartlepool, and her former address was Sheriff Street, though she now has no fixed address.
This breach took place just two weeks after the DAPO was imposed.
Cleveland Police, part of a pilot scheme for new civil orders aimed at preventing domestic abuse, actively monitor compliance and pursue offenders.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Heron emphasized the force’s commitment to community safety and supporting victims, noting that breaching a DAPO can result in up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
The scheme has already processed nearly 40 applications in the short period since its implementation, illustrating proactive enforcement and collaboration with victims and partners.
