MARTIN WATTS FROM BOURNEMOUTH SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE DOWNLOADS
In a case that has shocked the Bournemouth community, 62-year-old Martin Watts from Leydene Avenue faced justice after admitting to the possession of illegal child abuse images. The incident came to light following a police raid on Watts’ residence in Bournemouth in February 2011, which was initiated after authorities received intelligence from the Metropolitan Police.
During the raid, officers from Dorset Police seized various electronic devices, including DVDs and computers, as part of their investigation.
The subsequent examination of these devices revealed that Watts had been involved in the illegal activity of downloading indecent images of children.
Watts pleaded guilty to seven counts of possessing such images, which included a total of 15 still photographs and video clips.
These images ranged in severity from grade one to grade five offenses, indicating a range of explicit content involving minors.
In his interview with police, Watts admitted that he had been downloading adult pornography for approximately ten years.
However, he claimed that he had mistakenly accessed images of children, suggesting a lack of intent or awareness at the time.
The court was also informed that Watts’ personal life had been tumultuous, with his circumstances “falling apart” prior to the incident.
Despite this, it was noted that he had taken steps to turn his life around with the help of support services.
The case was heard at Bournemouth Crown Court, where Judge Samuel Wiggs delivered the verdict.
Recognizing the seriousness of the offense but also considering Watts’ circumstances, the judge sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for a year.
Additionally, Watts was informed that he would be required to register as a sex offender, a measure that underscores the gravity of his actions and the potential risk to the community.
