MAN BEATEN WITH HAMMER BY SON LEAVES ELDERLY FATHER IN HOSPITAL
Martin Thornley, 44, struck his elderly dad, 89, with a hammer after a disagreement about the messiness of his room.
He caused significant injuries including head wounds, a brain bleed, and a fractured chest.
Thornley, who lived with his dad, penned a note saying: "I, Martin Thornley, will tidy up his bedroom in three days" after being told to clear up his empty vodka bottles.
He then used a hammer to attack his dad multiple times, leading to the elderly man being found bloodied outside his house and taken to hospital.
Thornley was arrested the same day, and a forensic examination recovered the hammer and blood-stained clothing.
During court proceedings, Thornley's autism and depression were acknowledged; he pleaded guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison and received a restraining order preventing contact with his dad.
