RHYL MAN JAILED FOR BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER AND CAUSING CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A man named Martin Roberts from Rhyl received a prison sentence after violating a court order and causing criminal damage.Despite having a four-year restraining order in place that forbade him from making contact, Roberts appeared in his former partner's garden.
The victim, although feeling supported by law enforcement, felt unsafe because of Roberts' actions.
She observed him on her CCTV footage and was frightened as she was alone at that moment.
Roberts then damaged her parked car by smashing two of its windows.
Law enforcement was alerted and he was apprehended nearby.
Roberts admitted to breaking the restraining order and damaging property, leading to a 21-month prison sentence imposed by the judge at Mold Crown Court.
Prosecutor Jemma Gordon pointed out that Roberts had a history of criminal damage and had been subject to the restraining order since May of the previous year.
The victim shared her fears, saying, 'I just want Martin to stop and leave me alone.
I don't think he will ever stop.' The defense acknowledged Roberts' reckless behavior, citing his state of crisis, homelessness, and alcohol consumption.
The presiding judge condemned his actions, highlighting that breaching court orders is a serious offense and warning that such behavior is often intended to make the victim’s life miserable, especially under the influence of alcohol.
The court also expressed concern about Roberts' risk of self-harm and emphasized that penalties are necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
