A man who entered a room in a Perth homeless unit and sexually assaulted a woman there was jailed for 15 months by Sheriff George Way at Dundee.
Martin McGinlay, 49, a prisoner at Perth, had previously admitted that, on March 30, at Greyfriars House, Princes Street, Perth, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm, smashed a window, discharged a fire extinguisher, shouted and swore, threatened violence towards staff and entered the room of a female resident there, uninvited.
He further admitted entering a room uninvited, assaulting the woman, lying on her bed and placing his leg over her, placing a pillow over her head, seizing hold of her by the body, detaining her against her will and sexually assaulting her with his hand, against her will.
Sheriff Way told McGinlay: “This is a very serious offence.
You have shown no remorse and no understanding of what the woman went through.
Nothing other than a custodial sentence will do.
I also note you were out on licence, only days out and you were in a hostel when this occurred.” The sentence included a five-month unexpired portion of his previous jail sentence.
