GLASGOW SOCIAL WORKER MARTIN MCCLAY CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORN IN MILNGAVIE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, a social worker based in Glasgow has been found to possess a significant number of indecent images of children. The individual in question, Martin McClay, aged 50, was implicated after an observant member of the public noticed inappropriate content on his mobile device and promptly reported it to the authorities.Following this tip-off, police executed a search warrant at McClay's residence in Milngavie, located within East Dunbartonshire. During the raid, law enforcement officials recovered evidence from two mobile phones belonging to McClay, revealing that he had downloaded a total of 1,234 indecent images of minors. The images were reportedly stored on the devices between June 2011 and June 2012, indicating a prolonged period of illicit activity.
The case was brought before Glasgow Sheriff Court, where McClay's sentencing was deferred, and his bail was continued. The court was informed that an eyewitness had observed the images on McClay’s mobile phone and had relayed this information to the police, which ultimately led to the investigation.
As part of the investigation, authorities obtained a search warrant that allowed them to seize six mobile phones from McClay’s residence for detailed analysis. Among these devices, a Blackberry Curve was found to contain 16 images, while a Nokia phone held 1,218 images. Notably, these images had been deleted but were successfully recovered through forensic techniques.
During police interviews, McClay chose to remain silent, answering “no comment” when questioned about the allegations. Subsequently, he was formally arrested and remains in custody as the legal process continues. The case has raised serious concerns about the safety and oversight of individuals working within social services, especially those entrusted with the care of vulnerable children.
