PETERLEE PERVERT RAPED WOMAN TWICE IGNORING PLEAS TO STOP

A rapist who twice ignored a woman’s pleas to end her ordeal is starting an eight-year prison sentence.

Durham Crown Court heard that Martin Hume refused to listen to the victim’s wishes to stop and in both cases proceeded to rape her, despite her pain.

The woman made it clear she did not want to engage in any sexual acts, but Hume continued.

In one attack, when it became obvious he was not going to listen, the victim lay motionless as the assault continued.

Hume, of Gloucester Place, Peterlee, denied both rape charges but was convicted by a jury in August after a trial.

He appeared back at court for sentencing via video link from HMP Durham, where he has been remanded since the verdicts.

His victim, accompanied by a family member, read her impact statement, describing how Hume's actions ruined her life and caused her emotional distress.

She said she now fears encountering him in public and has undergone counselling.

Judge Jo Kidd sentenced Hume to eight years in prison, with two-thirds to be served before eligible for parole.

Hume was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and is subject to a restraining order preventing contact with the victim.

During his time in custody, he earned 'trusted prisoner' status and became a wing cleaner.
