COUNTY DURHAM THUG SET DOG ON PARTNER LEAVING HER 'CHEEK HANGING OFF'
A man set his lurcher on his girlfriend in a horrific attack that left her cheek "hanging off" after a row.The woman also had her lip ripped open and part of her nose bitten off when Corey Ramplin eventually dragged the dog named Jet off his victim.
A judge described her injuries as "grave, life-threatening and life-changing", and they were said to be so graphic they weren’t shown to a jury during Ramplin's trial.
Teesside Crown Court heard the 27-year-old was eventually arrested after the woman, initially frightened to report what happened, told the truth about the incident while she was in prison herself.
Shaun Dryden, prosecuting, said the woman was left with traumatic facial injuries, including parts of her nose missing and a wound to her upper lip resulting in tissue loss.
Mr Dryden said Franklin shouted - ‘Jet, away son’ and got the dog to jump up before saying ‘get her’ and the dog latched onto her face.
“The defendant dragged the dog back,” he said.
“The defendant was then heard to say – ‘Oh my god, what the f*** have I done’.
“She then described her cheek hanging off, and part of her nose was missing.” Initially, the woman told police the injuries were caused by a stray dog, but while she was in prison she told her offender manager that Ramplin had deliberately set the lurcher on her.
Mr Dryden said Franklin threatened the woman not to report him to the police, saying, ‘you will see what happens if you grass on my dog’, and he remained with her in hospital to make sure she didn’t say anything.
In a victim impact statement, she said the injuries have ruined her life, and she is now embarrassed and humiliated by her injuries and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result.
Ramplin, of no fixed abode but formerly of Peterlee, was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control and perverting the course of justice following the incident on July 9, 2024.
Tony Davis, mitigating, said his client continues to deny responsibility for setting his dog on his victim.
He added: “He maintains that it was not Jet that inflicted the injuries.” Recorder Paul Reid sentenced Ramplin to a total of ten years and six months after hearing how the attack had left the woman traumatised.
“She had appalling injuries, they were graphically shown in the photographs.
These were grave, life-threatening and life-changing permanent injuries.” Ramplin was issued with an indefinite restraining order to protect his victim.
