EMMERDALE WRITER JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE
An Emmerdale writer from Beverley who appeared in court after assaulting his girlfriend has been told by ITV bosses that he will no longer be working on the soap.Martin Fustes, aged 47, admitted to causing actual bodily harm and an offence of intentional suffocation on January 27.
The court heard that Fustes and his partner had been together for about 13 years and were living together in Beverley.
During the incident, he became abusive, poked and prodded her with his fingers, keys, and a vape, spat in her face, and placed both hands around her neck multiple times, blocking her from leaving the bedroom.
He also dragged her back to the bed with her dressing gown hood around her neck and repeatedly shoved her.
Fustes told her he wanted to kill her, to chop up her face, and expressed a wish that she could be hanging from a tree after being set alight.
The woman feared she was going to die and managed to escape through the front door.
She ran to the police station, but he caught up with her and pleaded for her to return home.
The woman described feeling distraught and sickened by his verbal abuse, stating she thought she was going to die if she did not escape.
The court sentence included a two-year suspended prison term, 150 hours of unpaid work, 15 days of rehabilitation, a 26-session domestic abuse programme, and a ten-year restraining order.
Fustes was also ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation and £150 in costs.
An ITV spokesman stated that Fustes had been informed he would no longer be writing for Emmerdale, emphasizing their stance against domestic abuse and noting the production team was unaware of the charges until recently.
