COVENTRY MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE FACES JAIL SENTENCE
A 22-year-old man from Coventry, Martin Bell of Tom Henderson Close, was convicted of raping a woman at a house in the city after being left alone with her.
The incident occurred after Bell had consumed alcohol and drugs, specifically up to 12 pints of drink and substances earlier in the night.
The woman had gone back to the house with another woman after meeting Bell and a friend, Bradley Wood, at Scholars nightclub.
During the trial at Coventry Crown Court, it was revealed that Bell had consumed alcohol and drugs, which impaired his memory of the events.
The jury found Bell guilty of raping the woman after the prosecution stated he had grabbed her when left alone.
The judge sentenced him to a prison term and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders' Register upon release.
Bell was remanded in custody for sentencing, which was to be scheduled after reports were prepared.
The court acknowledged the severity of the offence and warned Bell he faced jail time.
